Religious coexistence – tradition and culture. Guide for religious tourism in Tirana

Implementation period: September 15 – November 16, 2022

As part of the partnership with  Municipality of Tirana,  ASET Center undertook a unique initiative in Albania by creating the first Religious Tourism Guide – simultaneously promoting one of the most fundamental values of the Albanian people – RELIGIOUS COEXISTENCE.

This guide is an important tool for all tourists and visitors who wish to learn more about the religious diversity in the Municipality of Tirana. Available in both printed and electronic forms, this guide provides detailed information about the places of worship for the five main religions that coexist in Albania. As part of the development of religious tourism, the religious tourism guide is a key element in presenting the unique values of religious heritage in Tirana. The guide offers the opportunity to explore in-depth the history, architecture, and culture associated with the places of worship of the five main religions. The itineraries of these guides are designed to lead visitors through the most important religious monuments, such as mosques, churches, and tekkes, enriching their tourism experience. Through these tours, visitors can experience the harmony and coexistence that has historically characterized Albania, turning religious tourism into a way to promote the cultural and religious values of the country as a unique tourist destination.

This initiative culminated in a symposium called “Religious Coexistence,” where the importance of this guide in promoting harmonious religious coexistence and the development of religious tourism in Albania was discussed. High representatives of religious communities and representatives of tourism agencies participated in this event. Building bridges of communication and understanding between these religions has strengthened social cohesion and made Albania stand out for its peace and interfaith cooperation. This coexistence is not only an aspect of everyday life but also a strong symbol of interfaith tolerance and respect, creating an exceptional environment for the development of cultural and religious tourism.
