The E.C.O. CLUB Project, implemented by ASET under the GEAR UP! programme, aimed to empower young people as active agents in addressing climate change and promoting Global Citizenship Education (GCE). During the reporting period, the project’s organizational foundations were established by securing institutional authorization, setting up the management structure, and fostering close cooperation with the partner school “Sami Frashëri.”
One of the project’s key achievements was the establishment of the Climate Club (E.C.O. Club), consisting of 30 students selected through a transparent and inclusive process that ensured gender balance and equal participation. The students assumed an active role in organizing the club by defining its operating rules, allocating responsibilities, and developing the activity plan, thereby strengthening their sense of ownership and leadership.
The project delivered a training programme covering climate change, sustainable development, local environmental challenges, and Global Citizenship Education. The training sessions were conducted using interactive methodologies, including simulations, group work, debates, and reflective exercises, which contributed to increasing participants’ knowledge and developing their critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
To broaden the project’s impact, four thematic workshops were organized, engaging approximately 125 students and promoting peer-to-peer learning and discussion of climate-related challenges at the local level. In parallel, a student-led awareness-raising campaign was implemented through posters, videos, and digital materials, successfully informing the entire school community while also extending the reach of the project’s messages through social media.
Overall, the project has established a sustainable foundation for youth engagement in climate action by strengthening participants’ knowledge, active participation, leadership, and civic responsibility. Through a participatory and practice-oriented approach, the E.C.O. CLUB has built the capacities of young people and laid the groundwork for further student-led initiatives in support of sustainable development.
