On 18 March 2025, ASET Center organized “HOPE” Forum, aiming to raise awareness about the phenomenon of Hikikomori, a concerning issue affecting many young people who isolate themselves from social life. During the forum, experts from various fields and representatives of public institutions discussed the causes of this extreme isolation, including the influence of family, bullying, school pressure, and the impact of technology as key factors contributing to this phenomenon.
One of the most important moments of the forum was the participation of Elena Carolei, the President of the Hikikomori Parents’ Association in Italy, who shared her experiences and knowledge on addressing Hikikomori in the neighboring country. Additionally, we had the pleasure of hosting other Italian experts who analyzed international models of support and intervention for young people affected by this phenomenon, offering strategies and policies to help them reintegrate into society.
“HOPE” Forum also addressed the role of society and public institutions in preventing and treating Hikikomori phenomenon in Albania. Discussions focused on intervention strategies, supportive policies, and institutional engagement to prevent the spread of this issue. The importance of collaboration between non-profit organizations, institutions, and society was emphasized to create support opportunities and provide sustainable solutions.
This forum was considered an extraordinary success, and ASET Center is committed to continuing such initiatives in the future to combat the Hikikomori phenomenon and support young people in Albania.
