Implementation Period: February 2021 – February 2022
Financially supported by Municipality of Tirana, the project “You Are Not Alone” was a vital initiative aimed at improving the quality of life for the elderly through the provision of home assistance. Following the launch of home assistance services in 2020, this project continued for one year, ensuring continuous support and care for the elderly in compliance with national social protection standards. This service was provided in accordance with legislation, including the Social Services Law, as well as based on the National Strategy for Social Protection.
One of the key aspects of this project was the recruitment and training of psycho-social staff before they began offering integrated socio-health services to the elderly.
Providing home assistance to the elderly was of great importance for several fundamental reasons. First, it helped improve the quality of life of the elderly by ensuring they received the necessary care without needing to leave their familiar environment and homes. This not only reduced the stress and anxiety that often accompany relocation to care institutions, but also helped preserve their autonomy and dignity.
Home assistance also provided help with daily needs, such as personal hygiene, medication management, meal preparation, and assistance with daily activities. These services helped prevent the deterioration of physical and mental health, allowing the elderly to maintain their independence for as long as possible.
Another important aspect was the improvement of psychological well-being. Home assistance provided a close and consistent relationship between social operators and the elderly, ensuring companionship and emotional support, which were essential in combating loneliness and social isolation.
