Implementation period: August 2015 – February 2016
With the financial support of the “Agency for the Support of Civil Society,” ASET Center piloted the “Compasito” program in social care centers in Saranda and Tirana. This program focused on educating children to increase their engagement and activism in the protection of their rights and their participation in decision-making.
“Compasito” is an educational manual on children’s rights, developed by the Council of Europe, offering practical tools and methodology for human rights education for children and young people. This method is widely used in social care centers and NGOs working with children to raise awareness about their rights and empower them in decision-making processes. This methodology is particularly valuable in environments where children are in vulnerable situations, helping them build trust and develop sensitivity to their rights and responsibilities. As part of the project, an initial assessment of the specific needs for the protection of children’s rights was carried out, based on which an Action Plan was developed. This plan aimed to strengthen interaction and effective communication between the staff of the centers and the children benefiting from these services.
To implement this methodology, manuals and training modules were developed, which included training for both residential staff and the children themselves. The training aimed at enhancing the professional capacities of the staff and empowering children to be active participants in decision-making, while respecting and promoting their rights.
This project addressed an important need for quality training and systematic intervention in care centers, especially in a city like Saranda in Albania. Through the development of new training modules and the improvement of staff and children’s capacities, the project significantly increased the quality of services and the adherence to child rights standards.
