THE AGE OF ILLUSIONS – The Power of Disinformation and the Fight Against It

The project “The Age of Illusions – The Power of Disinformation and the Fight Against It” is an initiative aimed at contributing to the fight against disinformation and fake news in Albania by strengthening media and digital literacy, fostering critical thinking, and raising public awareness of the impact of manipulated information. The project focuses on two main target groups, young people and older adults, who face different challenges arising from the increasing use of digital media and social networks.

As part of the project, an assessment and analysis of the target groups’ exposure to disinformation and their ability to identify false, misleading, or manipulated information is currently being conducted. Through questionnaires, data are being collected to identify specific needs and provide an evidence-based foundation for the subsequent project activities.

A key component of the project is the implementation of training activities for young people and older adults. Young people from both urban and rural areas will participate in training sessions focused on identifying fake news, verifying information sources, and developing critical thinking skills in the digital environment. For older adults, tailored awareness-raising and informational activities are being carried out, with particular emphasis on recognising disinformation and using digital media and social networks in a safer and more informed manner.

The project also includes the development and implementation of a public awareness campaign, designed to communicate clear and accessible messages on the importance of verifying information before believing or sharing it. Through informational materials, social media posts, short videos, and other digital content, the campaign aims to reach and engage a broader audience.

By combining research, education, capacity building, and public communication, “The Age of Illusions” seeks to strengthen citizens’ resilience to disinformation, promote a culture of accurate and responsible information consumption, and contribute to a more informed and critically engaged society, better equipped to assess the information it receives and shares.
