Tirana of Tradition and Cultural Heritage

Implementation Period: December 2023

With the financial support of  Municipality of Tirana, the project “Tirana of Tradition and Cultural Heritage,” presented and implemented by ASET Center, took on the task of promoting the preservation of the artisanal skills passed down by the older generations of the city of Tirana. These skills represent a valuable cultural and traditional heritage, deeply rooted in the Albanian national identity, helping to maintain the connection between the past and the present.

Additionally, the creation of a magazine with detailed information and rich illustrations about Tirana’s artisanal works was distributed in both printed and electronic form to convey messages about the importance of preserving and valuing this tradition. The magazine was a valuable tool for educating the community and fostering more interest in craftsmanship.

One of the most important activities of the project was the organization of a dedicated fair for artisanal works, which took place at ExpoCity from December 13 to 15, 2023. This fair, titled “Skills – Career and Employment,” aimed not only to showcase traditional artisanal works but also to create a platform where local artisans could promote their creations and collaborate with one another. Visitors had the opportunity to see and purchase unique works made using traditional techniques, such as wood carvings, hand-crafted leather, traditional ceramics, and caps made by local masters.

Artisans also participated in special forums and discussions during the fair, where field experts shared knowledge and experiences on how these techniques can survive and evolve in modern markets. These activities strengthened the connections between older and younger generations of artisans, ensuring the continuity and advancement of these valuable traditions.

This project was an important step in promoting artisans and engaging them in preserving these valuable traditions for future generations.
