Implementation Period: April 2025 – July 2025
ASET Center, with the support of the Municipality of Tirana, is implementing “Tirana, the Heart of the Mediterranean,” an initiative aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of Mediterranean countries and strengthening intercultural dialogue through a unique tourist and educational experience in Tirana. Within the framework of the year when Tirana holds the title of “Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2025,” the project positions the city as a connecting bridge among 22 countries in the Mediterranean region.
The project includes the preparation of a 200-page cultural album in English, documenting the traditions, cuisine, art, and heritage of Mediterranean countries, which will be distributed both in physical format and as an electronic version with a QR code. A special feature is the involvement of 9 young people trained as cultural guides, who will present to tourists the culture of each Mediterranean country, dressed in the respective traditional costumes.
The activities will span three months in public spaces across Tirana, creating a colorful and interactive atmosphere that promotes cultural tourism, informal education, and active youth participation. The project aims to increase Tirana’s tourist attractiveness, strengthen the sense of regional belonging, and place the city at the center of promoting Mediterranean heritage.
“Tirana, the Heart of the Mediterranean” is an excellent example of blending tradition with innovation and a successful model of youth engagement in promoting cultural values and Mediterranean identity.
